Who We Are
OtherSide Entertainment is an independent game studio with offices in Boston, MA and Austin, TX. We are focused on providing players with innovative gameplay, immersive worlds, and engaging narrative. Our specialty is what we call “player-authored” experience in the tradition of Ultima Underworld, System Shock, Thief and Deus Ex – all games developed by the company’s founders, Paul Neurath and Warren Spector. In 2016, the company launched Underworld Overlord, one of the most highly rated Google Daydream VR games. Currently in development are System Shock 3 and Underworld Ascendant for PC and consoles.

What We Need

The OtherSide Entertainment Austin studio is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in working on System Shock 3. The ideal candidate will report to and work closely with the Technical Director to build gameplay systems according to design specifications. The Senior Software Engineer may also be called upon to troubleshoot existing features, optimize game performance, and work with other members of the team to improve the overall quality of the product and mentor other team members.

Job Responsibilities

  • Modify existing gameplay systems to suit gameplay
    Work with the Technical Director to advise design and art on technical systems
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a team setting with minimum supervision and take ownership of significant features
  • Work with the engineering team to fix bugs and improve codebase
  • Provide assistance and mentoring to more junior engineers
  • Willingness to jump into any feature as needed


  • 4+ years of experience programming in the games industry
    Experience working with various game engines, especially Unreal and Unity 3D
  • Multiple shipped titles on PC and consoles
  • Working knowledge of PC and console hardware internals development issues
  • Solid understanding of localization concepts, UTF8 and asset manipulation
  • Excellent understanding of 3D math used for object manipulation, animation, and dynamics
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrate technical leadership, solid organizational and communication skills, and effectively contribute in cross-group work tasks with the art and design teams
  • A passion for developing and playing games


  • BS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Experience building low-level systems in game engines
  • Positive demeanor, strong work ethic, sense of humor
  • Strong desire to build AAA quality games
